Our Commitment to these Sacred Lands

Yesterday, I travelled to the Royal Courts of Justice, London, to support the legal challenge against the tunnel and expressway at Stonehenge.

Two and a half years ago, the High Court ruled that the tunnel plans for Stonehenge were unlawful. However, despite this verdict, the government has resurfaced these plans and given them a green light once more. It's a situation that deeply concerns us at Heron Drums, and it's something we feel compelled to address.

Stonehenge Alliance has been tirelessly championing the defense of this sacred site with their ongoing campaign, highlighting that, ”there still has been no proper consideration of alternative solutions, while the economic case for the road makes no sense at all."

Even UNESCO reaffirmed that the proposed tunnel, expressway, and flyover will have "significant and inappropriate adverse impacts" on the sacred landscape of Stonehenge. This ancient site, one of the most renowned sacred lands in the UK, deserves recognition and protection as such. It should not become a canvas for what can only be described as grubby vanity projects like this road development. There are alternative solutions to address traffic issues in the area that don't harm this sacred landscape, its archaeology, and its unique biodiversity. However, the government have continued to push for this desecration.

At Heron Drums, our mission is clear: the Shamanic Drum is the heartbeat of Mother Earth, a sacred medicine tool that helps connect us deeply with ourselves and with the land. In these times of great change, we aim to enable and assist all those seeking deeper connections—with themselves, with others, and with the spirits of the land—by crafting these sacred tools.

Our mission underscores the importance of protecting our environment and sacred sites, which serve as vital doorways into our reconnection with the land, the cycles of nature, and the mysteries of the universe. This interconnectedness between our work and the preservation of sacred lands is something we deeply honour.

We understand the significance of contributing to and supporting causes that align with our mission. It was, therefore, crucial for us to join the efforts to protect our sacred landscapes here in the UK.

In my role as co-founder of Sacred Earth Activism, I have been closely involved with the campaign in recent years. Sacred Earth Activism has played a significant role in raising awareness through ceremonies on the land and raising funds for this important cause.

The potential consequences of the extensive road and tunnel works are alarming. They threaten to destroy a fragile local ecosystem and have a devastating impact on the sacred spring of Blick Mead, often referred to as the cradle of Stonehenge. For over 10,000 years, people have gathered here, offering their prayers and respect to the land. The destruction will also result in the loss of half a million archaeological artifacts, denying us the opportunity to learn the true story of our ancestors.

The court hearing continued until December 14th, and it will take a few weeks before we receive a ruling.

I sincerely ask all of you to keep the sacred landscape of Stonehenge in your thoughts and prayers during these critical weeks. Additionally, consider supporting Stonehenge Alliance and Sacred Earth Activism as we strive to put an us at end to this potential desecration once and for all. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that sacred sites like Stonehenge are preserved for future generations.
