This beautiful handmade Shamanic Rattle is made with natural Horse hide, bound to a Twister Hazel handle. It is filled with specially selected stones, shell and incense.

The Horse

She is regarded as a protector of horses, a fertility goddess, and a symbol of abundance. Rhiannon, another significant figure, is often depicted riding a white horse and is associated with sovereignty, enchantment, and the Otherworld. Macha, a goddess associated with sovereignty and war, possesses a powerful horse-like aspect, known for her incredible speed and strength.

Horses are seen as guides and companions in heroic quests and spiritual journeys. They serve as intermediaries between the mortal and divine realms, carrying individuals between worlds. In Celtic mythology, horses are revered for their wisdom and intuition, representing the profound connection between humans and the natural world. The Hazel

The Hazel is sourced from a number of local coppices in Kent that are within walking distances of ancient sacred sites. An offering is given to the forest for each piece that is cut and prayers are sung to the forest. We choose Hazel as it is a tree that naturally self coppices and grows fast, so that the impact of our cutting is minimal and it encourages growth in the forest.

Hazel holds significant symbolism, representing wisdom, inspiration, and divination in various cultures. In the Celtic tradition, Hazel is associated with knowledge and insight, often depicted as the tree of wisdom. Its connection to the mystical and unseen realms gives it a reputation as a tree of divination and magical powers. Additionally, the nuts of the Hazel tree hold symbolic significance as a symbol of hidden wisdom and potential. Sustainability

At Heron Drums, we work with natural materials and animal hides - this way the strength and the spirit of the animal and the tree live on in these sacred medicine tools. All of the hides and woods for our shamanic medicine tools are ethically and sustainably sourced, meaning that the hides are sourced from horses that have died naturally or wild culled stags or reindeer, where the hides are otherwise discarded, and the wood for the sticks is from sustainably managed forests.
