AONTACHT - Buffalo and Alder Shamanic Rattle

This beautiful handmade Shamanic Rattle is made with natural Buffalo hide, bound to a Alder handle. It is filled with specially selected stones, shell and incense.

The Buffalo

The Buffalo, often referred to as the sacred symbol of indigenous cultures in North America, carries profound spiritual significance. Revered as a symbol of abundance, strength, and interconnectedness, the buffalo embodies the spiritual essence of harmony with the natural world. Indigenous nations have long regarded the buffalo as a spiritual teacher, emphasising the importance of balance, unity, and respect for all living beings. It was many millenia ago when these enormous animals were roaming free here and were powerful ecosystem engineers, along with the other mega fauna. They were hunted to extinction many thousands of years ago, and only recently are their relatives being rewilded here, in projects such as the Wilder Blean.

The Alder

The Alder is Lord of the Waters, and is the tree of the spiritual warrior. In the Celtic tree calendar carries symbolism associated with resilience, strength, and guidance. It represents the ability to thrive in challenging environments, particularly those related to water and fire. Alder embodies qualities of protection and support, serving as a steadfast presence. Additionally, it is connected to the element of water and is associated with intuition, guidance, and unlocking hidden knowledge. In the Celtic tradition, Alder is revered for its durability and its ability to provide strength and protection, making it a symbol of resilience and wisdom.

Sustainability

At Heron Drums, we work with natural materials and animal hides - this way the strength and the spirit of the animal and the tree live on in these sacred medicine tools. All of the hides and woods for our shamanic medicine tools are ethically and sustainably sourced, meaning that the hides are sourced from horses that have died naturally or wild culled stags or reindeer, where the hides are otherwise discarded, and the wood for the sticks is from sustainably managed forests.
